Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children under five, especially in developing countries like Indonesia. Physical home environmental factors such as ventilation, humidity, flooring type, lighting, and occupancy density are risk factors contributing to the incidence of ARI. According to data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, ARI cases increased significantly from 2021 to 2023, reaching 877,531 cases nationwide in 2023. Jambi Province recorded 11,588 cases, with a prevalence of 1.5% among children under five.
This study was quantitative, using observational analytical methods. The research design used a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted in Tanjung Ilir Village, within the Rantau Panjang Community Empowerment Program (PKM) working area, in February 2025. Probability sampling was used as the sampling technique. The instruments used were questionnaires and observation sheets, analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis.
Home ventilation area and occupancy density were significantly associated with the incidence of ARI in toddlers, with p=0.025 (<0.05) and p=0.007 (<0.05), respectively.
